Marketing Dos and Don’ts

Here’s a list I’ve compiled over the years of the most important dos and don’ts for Marketing. Seriously, you can save yourself a lot of money and headache by following these.

Marketing Dos

  • Do create a marketing plan.

  • Do have a marketing budget (even if it’s vague).

  • Do have several marketing sources that bring in regular leads.

  • Do understand the importance of branding yourself as a professional.

  • Do regularly check your profile on Google Business.

  • Do more manual marketing if your budget is low.

  • Do know the pros and cons of every media you plan to use.

  • Do contact past clients regularly by email, text, and snail mail.

  • Do create a referral program.

  • Do some marketing that your competition is NOT doing.

  • Do consider that any ad media can work if it’s used right.

  • Do test, test, test different headlines, offers, and ad media.

Marketing Don’ts

    • Don’t rely largely on FREE marketing sources alone.

    • Don’t put all your budget in ONE marketing source.

    • Don’t let a sales rep or Google Ad rep plan your marketing.

    • Don’t rely solely on pay-per-click. Use organic ranking, YouTube, etc.

    • Don’t be afraid to spend money on the right marketing. Spend more money when possible.

    • Don’t neglect your online presence.

    • Don’t rely solely on SEO for leads.

    • Don’t forget to optimize your website for conversions. Traffic without bookings is worthless.

    • Don’t chase every trend. Stick to what works and test new things slowly.

    • Don’t assume your competitors know what they’re doing. They usually don’t.

    • Don’t stop marketing just because you’re busy. Momentum dies fast.
